Spring is here at last bringing with it warm days and bright sunshine. One of my favorite things to do on a sunny spring morning is open the front door so that the rays of sun steam in across the floor. I love watching what happens next.
All three of my fur babies rush to lie down in their sunbeam. They will bask in its warmth for hours. As the sun changes position in the sky and the shaft of light moves across the floor they adjust their position and move along to the next spot.
They are persistent following relentlessly. I’ve observed this ritual dozens of times and each time I feel a smile cross my face and touch my heart. But today as I watch the dance between my pups and the sun as they gracefully glide across the floor together a new realization dawns on me.
What a great parable of my relationship with Jesus. Am I willing to follow Him no matter where He leads? Do I relish His warm embrace or do I just lie in the shadows?
As I pondered this John 8:12 (ESV) came to mind. “Again Jesus spoke to them saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’,”
“This is a life-changing verse if you see it for what it is – see him for who he is. It says that following Jesus is more than tagging along behind him. It means following him for who he is, Being so taken with him that you join yourself to him. And notice that when you follow him you have him – see him for who he is. It says following as the light of life.”– John Piper
Wow! did you hear that? Jesus says He is the light of the world – Son Light! And He tells us to follow Him., i.e.: Follow the Son. So just as my pups pursue the sun I will follow the Son
Yes, He is light and I don’t believe there is a time when the Son shone brighter than on the first Easter morning. When the rays of the morning sunrise met the radiant light of the Son as He walked out of the tomb. I can only imagine the splendor but I know that moment changed everything for everyone forever.
Do you follow the Son? If not, I can’t think of a better season than Easter to take this life transforming step. If you would like to do so I invite you to pray this simple prayer: Jesus, I want to follow You. I invite you to be the forgiver of my sins and the leader of my life. If you prayed that prayer and would like more information about your next step please email me at email@example.com.
For those of you who are already Christ followers I invite you to join me in renewing our commitment this Easter to follow Him and live for Him alone.
May we always keep the Son in our eyes.
“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
