There are many reasons to celebrate, but the ultimate reason to celebrate is right around the corner.
Yes, I’m talking about Easter Sunday, the tomb is empty, Jesus has risen. God’s exclamation mark that makes it possible for us to live a more than ordinary life. I’d say that’s worth celebration like we celebrate nothing else.
The Danger Of Missing The Celebration
But the sad truth is if we are not careful we can be so familiar with the story of Passion Week and Resurrection Sunday that we just go through the motions of celebrating this pivotal event.
I like the way Matt Ham says it. “In American Christianity, we speak about the resurrection with such a lack of enthusiasm because we have heard the story so many times. It’s as if we’ve become numb to its impact. We dress up in our church clothes, listen to a sermon, take family pictures, enjoy a nice meal together, then it’s back to real life. Our kids misbehave, we have deadlines at work, and the mortgage still needs to be paid. So the story escapes us and is replaced by life – a life that, if we’re honest, can seem less than grand. A life that, too often, becomes more like a routine.”
In John 10:10 Jesus says, ‘… I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [ to the full, till it overflows.] (AMP)’
Life Outside the Box
I’m learning that Easter is a state of being, a life we get to live. And I am determined to celebrate this Easter more than I have ever celebrated before.
It was like an atomic explosion when God raised Jesus from the dead, and it blew life in a box up. It’s time for me to embrace and live the abundant life that He has given me to fullest.
He didn’t suffer so I could live a safe and ordinary life. He did it so I could live outside the box in a deep and intimate relationship with Him.
Take a moment and listen to this medley by Anthem Lights of some of my favorite songs that celebrate the joy and promise of Easter.
My prayer for you this Easter is that you will truly celebrate all the fullness of what He has done for us. And that you will come to know Him to a depth and breadth that you never dreamed possible.
